From Burnout to the Internet Corporate “Buddha”

In 2019 I was burnt out. I felt unproductive, uncreative, I didn’t have the coveted “work friends” that people loved to talk about and most of my college friends had gone off to pursue their dreams in different places.
This was a bit of a problem for me. I’ve always been a hyper connector of people and an extreme networker. For example, as a recent graduate, I moved to the west coast without knowing anyone to intern for a major startup. I didn’t let deter me or negatively impact my experience. I just adjusted to my new reality! I set up weekly intern group lunches, organized intern outings, and attended every major networking event the city had to offer. I left with some lifelong friends and amazing memories.

So what do you think I did when I once again ran into the problem of not fully adjusting to the corporate space? I adjusted to my new reality. In an attempt to make sense of the transition from being a hyper-active college student to a hard-working corporate professional, I start a blog. I decided to call the blog Breakroom Buddha. Since its founding, it has gained traction and praise from college students, early career professionals, and seasoned professionals who are well into their careers.

The initial idea for the blog was to equip early career professionals with the tools they needed to be successful both inside and outside the office. The articles written give detailed advice on all the things no one teaches you in school about being a professional or adult. For example, you’ll find an article about how to correctly research a company before an interview, one about how to make the most of your paid time off, and even one about the age-old debate surrounding unpaid work.

Now, I’m inching closer to the 2 year anniversary of Breakroom Buddha. Since it’s founding, I’ve been able to meet a ton of other exciting and inspirational young professionals! I’ve also been able to partner with my University, career coaches and other seasoned professionals. Like the title of my blog suggests, I have become sort of an internet “Buddha,” and guru for those who are just as lost as I once was.

There are some exciting things coming down the Breakroom Buddha pipeline, so subscribe and stay tuned! 🙂
