A Letter From The CEO
Years ago, when I initially came up with the idea to create a company for women, I had no idea what the world was in for. The way things have changed in society as a whole in the past 2 years would make your head spin. Things are different now, and it’s up to you to adjust or get left behind. The world is in a different space today and more than ever women need community and support. I would have never thought working from home and virtual school would be the new norm. All of us have had to adjust, and some of us made it through unscathed while others didn’t make it at all. From the amount of deaths this virus has seen, to the amount of shut-downs from businesses– to say we have been through something is an understatement. What really bothers me is the fact that women are the ones who have been impacted the most during the pandemic. Four times as many women as men dropped out of the labor force in September, roughly 865,000 women compared with 216,000 men. This validates predictions that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women—and the accompanying child care and school crises—would be severe. Although women drive up to 80% of the consumer spending dollar in this country, we are still underrepresented in every industry. Why do you think that is? Why aren’t we as women using our power and our voice to make an impact?
These are the questions that I ask myself every day as I’m on this journey of building this platform. As the CEO of TechMae, I want to make sure that our community always puts women first. It is my job to make sure that women know why we exist and how we can support them. Community and networking isn’t going away anytime soon, but the way in which we do it is changed for good. Having access to support from other women shouldn’t have to be filtered through the many sponsored ads, and algorithms of traditional social networking. On TechMae our goal is to make it easy for women to connect and share within the community. It’s about unity in an online world where there are hundreds of thousands of groups for women. One of the things that I’ve noticed, on other social networking sites, you have groups of the same topic which leads to missed connections. If you have heard about the recent news of “Wall Street Bets, and Gamestop” you understand the power of unity and communities coming together to do something. They were able to create a narrative that many thought was impossible for the underdogs… Imagine if we as women could do the same thing, when it came to laws, making sure companies have us on the board seat, making money moves and more. That’s what TechMae is all about- and we are just getting started. It took awhile to build out the first phase of our technology, but I assure you we have much more coming. One of our goals is to have 1 million women connecting within our network– all driven by social impact and change for women.
Our mission is to give women an exclusive safe space to showcase what they have going on, but more importantly, we want to give women a voice and access to support especially during these difficult time. On the TechMae app, we strive to incorporate ways that enhance the networking experience for women as a whole. Are you a UX/UI designer? Reach out.
