Several years ago, while working at a tech job in Arizona, I had an idea to start a group for women in tech. I initially purchased thetechgirls domain, and the goal was to bring women together who worked in the tech field. As a woman in tech, I noticed the significant underrepresentation of women in the industry. I was one of the few women working at my job, and the statistics across major tech companies reflected this disparity. The echo of wanting a place to connect with other women in tech, network, and share resources was deep rooted and something that I really couldn’t shake. Today, despite the amount of time that has passed since then, the numbers haven’t changed much; in fact, in some industries, they have even declined. It is during this time that the concept around TechMae was born.
